Breaking: TollRo goes live Thursday, 1 October. What we know two days out and how to get your fleet ready
TollRo goes live Thursday, 1 October
On 25.09.2026, CNAIR announced that the TollRo platform goes live on 1 October 2026 at 00:00. From that moment, all new vignettes (rovinietă) and route tickets are issued exclusively through TollRo. Vignettes already purchased remain valid.
TollRo can be paid in two ways:
- Route ticket: paid in advance for a route set before departure. It is valid for 72 hours and covers a single trip on the chosen route.
- TollRo mobile app: records the route through the phone, and payment is taken from the electronic wallet, by card.
From 00:00 on Thursday, trucks over 3.5 t no longer run in Romania on a vignette. They pay for every kilometre driven. After weeks in which not even CNAIR seemed sure of the date, the company has officially confirmed the launch goes ahead on schedule. For dispatchers, this means that from day one every trip in Romania carries a new cost that has to be calculated and paid before the driver sets off.
Payment channels available from 1 October 2026:
- portal.etoll.ro (https://portal.etoll.ro/): account creation, vehicle enrolment (including fleets), buying vignettes and route tickets, managing the electronic wallet and invoices;
- TollRo mobile app, free for iOS and Android: buying vignettes and route tickets, recording the route for TollRo, road notifications;
- authorised distributors: vignette;
- CNAIR points of sale and border crossing points (SDN and ACI): vignette and route ticket;
- SMS: vignette;
- cash: at selected points.
How much it costs
Tariffs are set by MTI Order no. 1925/2025, in lei per kilometre, VAT included. The tariff is the same for Romanian and foreign carriers. It is indexed to inflation every December and applies from 1 January. On motorways you pay twice as much as on national roads, so the route you choose has a direct impact on the cost.

For now, LoadHub’s TollRo monitoring is available only on Android phones and tablets with access to Google Play.
Will it be postponed again?
Not for now. CNAIR’s announcement comes just one week after a request to postpone TollRo to 1 April 2027. Carriers are asking the Government and Parliament to postpone it to 1 April 2027 or, if 1 October stands, to grant six months without penalties. The ASTRA employers’ federation and the APULUM association point to a legislative initiative registered with the Senate on 21 September. On top of that, Romania currently has an interim government, which cannot issue emergency ordinances to change the deadline.
Until there is an official decision, work on the assumption that on Thursday at 00:00 the payment obligation and camera enforcement come into force.
Important if you already have toll boxes for other EU countries: paying TollRo through electronic toll service providers interoperable with EU systems only becomes available from 15 January 2027. Until then, TollRo is paid manually, trip by trip.
